Femtech Blazing The I.T. Trail
A little over thirteen years ago, during the advent of the GSM mobile telephony services in Nigeria, the seed of what is now known today as Femtech I.T. was sown. It began with the sales of mobile phones as a small company from humble beginnings in a room. Two years later, the company diversified into the sales and supply of computers. Naturally due to popular demand the computer maintenance arm of the company started after which came the I.T. training service.
Femtech I.T is the brain child of Emmanuel Abidoye who stated the company not out of design, but by necessity and demand. He says that his background in electronic engineering had little to do with the choice of business pursuit. According to him “All our businesses were not conceived. They are the products of meeting specific needs of clients at particular times and our clients’ expectations keep us on our toes at all times.” He remembers vividly the circumstances surrounding the sale of the first computer by the company.
The company’s humble beginning was sweet and challenging. In the early days, many people were skeptical of doing business with a young man. The main fear was that a young man could disappear after money was given him without rendering the required service. Persistence and hard work paid off as there was a shift in this paradigm and more people were doing business with the company based on its track record of consistently delivering the required services and products satisfactorily.
The company is currently involved in three major areas of the I.T. industry namely:
1. Sales of mobile phones, computers, accessories, softwares and peripherals,
2. PC Clinic which undertakes maintenance/after-sales technical support
3. I.T. Training
Today, Femtech I.T has six operational bases, four in Ilorin, one in Lagos and Offa respectively. The setting up of their branches was to meet the I.T requirements of customers in all spheres which are in pursuance of the mission statement which states:
“We see a near future where every home and office is automated. Where information technology accessibility is increased to meet the private and commercial needs of the nation.”
Femtech I.T. strives to meet the clients’ demands by providing quality products, backed with top rate after sales technical support within a strategic development plan which includes in-depth product knowledge and manpower.”
Femtech I.T invests heavily in the training and retraining of the staff which the company believes is the driving force behind the business.
The company places a lot of emphasis on value added service, product knowledge and the attendant value added customer service the company offers. Recently two of the company’s staff just completed an advanced sales course at the Pan African University.
Contrary to popular belief that Kwara State is a slow market with low buying power, Femtech I.T believes that each market should be rated on its potential instead of the immediate purchasing power. According to Mr. Abidoye, “Kwara state has great potential especially with the ever-growing population and needs to be met.
Creativity and business strategy will have to play a pivotal role in taking advantage of the opportunities maturely. Lagos and Abuja are saturated with so many players. As far as I’m concerned, Ilorin happens to be the best place to do business.”
The company recently moved into its new multi-storey corporate headquarters located on Ibrahim Taiwo Road, near the stadium complex. Already the company is a one stop shop with the availability of product sales, maintenance/repair and training services. Efforts will be intensified on the fortification of the Femtech brand. Currently, Femtech I.T. is a HP Partner as well as Samsung Accredited Dealer among other global brand affiliations.
As a responsible corporate citizen, Femtech I.T is involved in a vibrant corporate social responsibility programme which is devoid of publicity but well known to the recipient causes and organizations.
